Iso-Wetlands is a UKRI-NERC funded (2022-2026) research project between researchers at University College London, the University of Leeds and the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology.

The project aims develop natural abundance stable sulphur isotope analysis of archaeological plants and animals as a new tool for exploring hydrological conditions under which agricultural production was taking place. This development has the potential to improve understanding of water management strategies in the past and will open up wider possibilities for the use of these isotopes in archaeology and ecology to examine wetland habitat use by both people and animals. Findings will also lead to more reliable interpretation of isotope data in food origin and authenticity investigations, and archaeological and animal migration studies.
